Warranty and Guarantees

This page explains the guarantee cover that applies to products purchased from Stephens Premier Limited, trading as Leica Store Manchester ("we", "us", "our"). We sell brand new Leica equipment, carefully inspected Pre-Owned Leica equipment, and new products from select non-Leica partner brands — each of which is covered differently, as set out below.
Nothing on this page affects your statutory rights as a consumer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and other UK consumer protection law. Those rights exist regardless of, and in addition to, any guarantee described here — see Section 5.

2. New Leica Products
2.1 All brand new Leica photographic and sport optics equipment purchased from us is covered by the manufacturer guarantee provided by Leica Camera AG and/or its UK distributor, Leica Camera Limited, currently 2 years from the date of purchase, as set out in Leica's own published warranty conditions.
2.2 This manufacturer guarantee can be extended to 3 years if you register your product within the timeframe specified by Leica (typically via My Leica / the Leica Club portal) using your proof of purchase and serial number. Registration is your responsibility, and the terms of the extension are set by Leica Camera AG / Leica Camera Limited, not by us.
2.3 The manufacturer guarantee covers defects in materials or workmanship arising under normal use. It does not typically cover:
- accidental damage, drops, impacts, or exposure to water beyond the product's stated resistance rating;
- wear and tear, cosmetic wear, or consumable parts (e.g. batteries);
- damage caused by unauthorised repair, modification, or use of non-genuine accessories;
- loss or theft.
2.4 For full, up-to-date terms, exclusions, and the claims process, please refer to the official warranty conditions published by Leica Camera AG / Leica Camera Limited at [leica-camera.com warranty conditions page — insert current link], as these are set and updated by the manufacturer/distributor, not by us. We are happy to assist with registration or a warranty claim on your behalf — just bring your item and proof of purchase into store, or contact us at hello@leicastoremanchester.com.
3. Pre-Owned Leica Products
3.1 All Pre-Owned equipment we sell has been inspected and function-tested before sale, and comes with a condition grading and description of any cosmetic marks or included accessories, provided to you at the point of sale. In addition, we provide our own dealer guarantee against manufacturing defects, as follows.
3.2 Guarantee period:
- 2 years from the date of purchase, where the product's model/range was originally released within the last 10 years, or
- 1 year from the date of purchase, as standard, covering manufacturing defects for all other Pre-Owned items — including any item whose model/range was first released more than 10 years ago, regardless of when that specific unit was manufactured.
Eligibility is based on the original release date of the product model, not the manufacture date of the individual unit. This means long-running product lines that remain in current production but are based on an older design (for example, the Leica M-A or MP) are covered by the 1-year guarantee only, even if the specific unit you purchase was manufactured recently.
3.3 Residual manufacturer warranty takes priority. If the Pre-Owned item you purchase still has time remaining on its original Leica manufacturer guarantee (for example, because it was originally sold new less than 2–3 years ago and was registered for the extended period), that residual manufacturer guarantee applies in place of our Pre-Owned Guarantee for as long as it remains valid, and its terms (including any exclusions and the claims process set out in Section 2) will govern instead. Our Pre-Owned Guarantee (Section 3.2) will then take over once the residual manufacturer guarantee expires, for the remainder of the applicable Pre-Owned Guarantee period, provided that period has not already elapsed. Please note that a residual manufacturer guarantee is typically tied to the original registered owner and proof of purchase — Leica Camera AG / Leica Camera Limited's own conditions govern whether it can be honoured for a subsequent owner.
3.4 The Pre-Owned Guarantee covers manufacturing defects only — that is, faults arising from the way the product was originally made, not from its age, use, or condition. It does not cover:
- cosmetic wear, marks, or condition issues disclosed (or reasonably expected given the item's age and grading) at the point of sale;
- accidental damage, drops, impacts, or liquid/water damage;
- wear and tear or consumable parts (e.g. batteries, seals, focus/zoom rings loosening with age);
- damage caused by unauthorised repair, modification, or use of non-genuine/third-party accessories;
- faults arising from normal aging of electronic components beyond the manufacturer's original design life;
- loss or theft.
3.5 To make a claim under the Pre-Owned Guarantee, please contact us at hello@leicastoremanchester.com along with your proof of purchase. The item must then be physically inspected by us in person before any claim can be accepted or covered — we are unable to confirm or honour a Pre-Owned Guarantee claim based on a description, photos, or video alone. Where a valid manufacturing defect is confirmed on inspection, we will repair or replace the item, or provide a refund/credit, at our discretion.
3.6 We are able to accept items sent to us by post for warranty inspection only within the first 30 days of purchase. After the first 30 days, the item must be brought in person to our store at 9 Police Street, Manchester, M2 7LQ, UK — we do not offer a postal warranty service beyond this initial 30-day period. Where an item is posted to us within this 30-day window, you are responsible for the cost of carriage to send it to us (we recommend a tracked and insured service, as you remain responsible for the item until it reaches us). For any item posted to us from outside the UK, you are also responsible for all customs duties, import taxes, and associated charges arising from that shipment.
3.7 The Pre-Owned Guarantee is personal to the original purchaser named on the proof of purchase and is not transferable. If you sell, gift, or otherwise pass on the item to someone else during the guarantee period, the guarantee does not transfer with it and the new owner will not be able to make a claim under it.
3.8 The Pre-Owned Guarantee is provided by us (Stephens Premier Limited), not by Leica Camera AG or Leica Camera Limited, and neither Leica Camera AG nor Leica Camera Limited has any obligations in respect of Pre-Owned equipment purchased from us unless separately stated by Leica.
3.9 The specific guarantee period applicable to the individual item you are buying — including whether it qualifies for the 2-year or 1-year cover described in Section 3.2, or whether a residual manufacturer guarantee applies under Section 3.3 — is confirmed on that item's own product page. Please check the product page, or ask a member of staff, if you are unsure which guarantee applies before you buy.
4. New Products from Partner Brands (Non-Leica)
4.1 As well as Leica equipment, we sell brand new products from a number of carefully selected non-Leica partner brands (for example, bags, straps, tripods, filters, and other accessories). These are not covered by Leica Camera AG's guarantee or by our own Pre-Owned Guarantee — they are covered by the relevant manufacturer's own guarantee instead.
4.2 As a minimum, new partner brand products come with at least 1 year's guarantee from the date of purchase, covering manufacturing defects. Some brands and products go further, offering longer fixed terms or, in some cases, a lifetime guarantee — this varies by brand and by product.
4.3 Because guarantee length and terms vary between our partner brands, the specific guarantee that applies to each product — including its length, what it covers, and how to claim under it — is set out in the manufacturer's own paperwork provided with the item, and/or on that manufacturer's website. Please check this documentation before you buy if guarantee length is important to your decision.
4.4 Where a partner brand's guarantee requires you to claim directly with the manufacturer, we're happy to point you in the right direction. Where we're able to handle the claim on your behalf, bring the item into store along with your proof of purchase and we'll do what we can to assist.
5. Your Statutory Rights Are Not Affected
Whichever category your item falls into — new Leica, Pre-Owned Leica, or new partner brand — the guarantees described above are in addition to, and do not replace, your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 — including the right to expect goods to be of satisfactory quality (taking into account age, condition, and price paid for Pre-Owned items), fit for purpose, and as described. 6. How to Make a Warranty Claim

- Provide your proof of purchase (receipt or order confirmation) and, where possible, the product's serial number.
- Describe the fault as clearly as possible. Within the first 30 days of purchase, we may accept the item by post for inspection — at your own cost for carriage (plus any customs duties/import taxes for international shipments). After the first 30 days, we do not offer a postal warranty service — the item must be brought in person to our store for inspection.
- We'll confirm whether the issue is covered under the relevant guarantee (Section 2, 3, or 4 above) and, if so, arrange repair, replacement, or refund/credit as appropriate. For new products under a manufacturer guarantee, we may need to forward the item to the relevant manufacturer's authorised service centre.
